Our
Current Healthcare System
The
world of medicine and healthcare is large, complex,
and bewildering. It is almost a separate governance
and culture, and unless a person has experienced the
world of healthcare, it is almost unknowable. And
it is a part of our lives that we would rather
not encounter. In this section we attempt to
describe healthcare system in California (and the
United States) and to discuss its successes and failures.

Single
Payer versus Socialized Medicine
People confuse "single payer"
healthcare with socialized medicine. The distinction
is sometimes a bit blurred, but usually clear. This
section of the web site lays out the differences and
the similarities of the two kinds of medicine.

Healthcare
in Canada and Elsewhere
If Americans hear anything about other
healthcare systems, it is usually about Canada's.
And often the reports are biased. We think it is important
to look in an unbiased way at Canada's healthcare.
We also reference some other nations' healthcare.

Motivating
Others to Get Interested
Often we hear people say that they know
that universal health care with single payer financing
is what we as a society need. But when they talk about
it with friends, acquaintances, or family, they find
others just not that interested. The page examines
how to get others involved in this important part
of everyone's life.
